The 14^th of November is celebrated as Children’s Day all over India. It happens to be the birthday of Pandit Jawahar Lal Nehru , the first Indian Prime Minister. He was very fond of children and children loved him too. As a sign of affection, children call him Chacha Nehru (Uncle Nehru). The day emphasises the significance of showing love and affection to children and protecting them.

Educational institutes mark the occasion by conducting events and programmes that showcase the talents of students and emphasise the importance of children for the bright future of India. As a gesture of affection towards children, teachers take to the stage and perform for the students.

Children’s day reminds the adult world that children are the future and a day to renew our commitment and duty towards the wellbeing of the children. In the same breath, it must be added that the occasion calls on the adults to be inspired by the qualities of children - to live peacefully, forgivingly and truthfully.

The success of the nation lies on the shoulders of the younger generation. Therefore it is essential to inculcate integrity, loyalty, hard work, discipline and a great sense of humanity in them. Children who have a strong foundation of knowledge, skills and a positive outlook towards life are the key to a brighter, stronger and united India.

On this day, Alpha Porur School reiterates and stresses on the rights of children and it is crucial that adults do their best to follow and protect it:

The Career Development Cell @ Alpha College of Engineering

The placement record and skill developmentcourses that an engineering college offers are the prominent features that make it renowned and sought after by budding engineers. The major courses offered by an engineering college are important, however even more important are the pedagogies followed in imparting knowledge to the students. The placement record and the efforts of a college in aiding students getting placed vouch for the excellence and success of the college.

At the Alpha College of Engineering a lot of thought and effort have been put into empower the students and to mould them into confident and talented individuals who have the capability to get placed and be successful in the engineering field of their choice. Placement of students has two aspects to it. The first phase of placement is the placement itself. The second phase concerns the recruiters. It is not sufficient to get the students placed in reputed companies. Rather, true success comes when the companies are happy to have recruited students from our institution and our students are proving themselves as capable engineers.

In this effort, the Alpha College of Engineering has been running the Career Development Cell. It keeps the students engaged right from the beginning of the academic year with various training programmes by the in-house faculty and corporate trainers from companies such as Ethnus and Futurenet.

Keeping in mind the importance of communication skills - which includes verbal and non-verbal communication, the students are trained to be effective, efficient communicators who can express themselves with clarity and coherence. A significant change has been observed among the students after undergoing these training programmes in terms of increase in confidence and personality development.

Apart from conducting these programmes the CDC organises Mega Job Fairs that attract participants who number in the thousands. A major part of them get placed in career paths that they desire.

Chemistry

The Department of Chemistry is one of the oldest at the Alpha College of Engineering. The experienced staff members provide quality education to the first year students with the aid of top notch equipment. The department is renowned for its innovative teaching methods. As aspiring engineers, students must have a good understanding of chemicals and their properties since it forms the basis of most of the engineering disciplines. Laboratories

English

Mere knowledge does not suffice in a world where communication plays a major role. Be it communicating one’s own idea to others or acquisition of knowledge from other source (people / books etc.), it is vital to be proficient in the art of communication. In the current scenario, English is the library language that connects the world. For this reason, the department of English provides students with vital training to meet the demands of global communication and helps them develop proficiency in English. The department conducts English skill development courses and training that consist of traditional teaching methods while using technology. English is taught to students on different levels according to their proficiency. The English courses range from introductory to advanced levels. Encouraging intellectual independence, the department lays importance on the critical and creative cognition of students, which will improve by combining reading and interpretation of texts.

Activities such as seminars, film shows, debates, and group and panel discussions are regularly organized by the English Association to promote a wholesome approach in learning English. The activities act as career pavers and offer students employment advantage.

Information Technology (IT)

Established in the year 2006, the Department of Information Technology has spared no expense to provide students with the best equipments for their education. The dedicated faculty enhance students' learning experience with quality education providing them with practical lessons which are useful when they leave college and enter their careers. Students expand their technical expertise in the course.

The department is furnished with the latest equipments for training the students’ to meet the industry requirements placing it among the top engineering colleges in Chennai when it comes to provision of infrastructure and equipments.

The department has computing laboratories with advanced computer systems with a vast collection of software, ranging over a wide field of applications. The IT Laboratory-I & II are geared with 120 systems with the latest configurations of HCL. Updated software is used in keeping with the university requirements.

Students carry out their research work and complete projects in the Project Lab. The provisions in the lab help them to finish their projects efficiently and effectively. The resources in the lab aid the students in coming up with creative solutions.

Biomedical Engineering

Established in the year 2006, the Biomedical Engineering Department at Alpha College of Engineering has stood distinct in delivering quality education to the students. In keeping up with the rapid developments in the biomedical field, it is essential to prepare the students to meet the demands and maintain high standards. As bio-medical engineers are employed in various disciplines which include hospitals, research facilities (both educational and medical institutes), manufacturing medical instruments, pharmaceuticals and biomedical research, it is essential that the students are versatile and capable of thriving in any field.

Being an interdisciplinary field, teaching biomedical engineering requires faculty who can help students work broadly and comprehensively to leash interdisciplinary knowledge consisting of medicine, molecular and cellular biology, and engineering.

For this reason, Alpha Engineering College in Chennai has set up the English and Foreign Language Development Cell to impart speaking and writing skills in English, French, Japanese, Chinese and Spanish. Minimum Learning Material (MLM)

Minimum Learning Material comes as a boon for students. It is an online support system that helps students prepare for the university examinations. It includes e-books for theory and practical papers (Anna University framed syllabus), key point summaries, question banks and lab manuals with sample results for revision throughout their study - which collaterally help during the crunch time before exams,.

Alpha Portal for Student Excellence (APSE)

Intended for the students and faculty, the Alpha Portal for Student Excellence is an online portal that enables them to access resources like MLM, material for placement training and preparation for competitive exams (GATE, CAT etc.) The students are given individual login IDs and passwords to access the portal during their stay at Alpha College of Engineering.
